This room was a space for social use, reception and entertainment for “visitors”. Along with the music room, it was part of the great hall that every house of bourgeois families had. Both make up a spatial and functional unit adjacent to the dining room.
The figure of Matilde Pacheco is very present in this room since, according to stories from family and neighbors, it was here where she received her friends and family to share a talk and tea. On many occasions José Batlle y Ordóñez was also its host, as evidenced by photographs published in the press, such as during the visit of Anita Garibaldi, Giusseppe's granddaughter, in July 1929.
As was common in bourgeois residences, the decorative style was ornate. In addition to the objects that populated the room, the walls were wallpapered and hung paintings and photographs, as well as plates and other decorative objects.
In the living room there are original furniture and objects from the house, highlighting the large mirrors with gilded frames, the chandelier with glass chandeliers as the central light, the set of Louis XVI style armchairs, the central table, and the porcelain vases from Sèvres, imported from Europe.
* Some pieces of extreme fragility and heritage value have been preserved in the current assembly of the room, placing them in visible and safe places, and not in the place they usually occupied.
